A positive analyst report and prizes for its fixtures validate the LED maker's focus on general illumination and move away from display backlighting.
Sales of LEDs for general lighting will help Cree strengthen its sales growth in an economically difficult 2009, according to investment analyst Oppenheimer and Co.
Yair Reiner s September 18 upgrade anticipates that the Durham, North Carolina, chip maker's share will price grow faster than the S&P 500 index over the next 12-18 months. After the report was released Cree's shares closed up 27 percent at $28.75 on September 19, gaining 43 percent in value in just one week.
