Laytec acquires ORS’ technology to enhance its monitoring
ORS, a former competitor of LayTec, entered liquidation in August 2011 after an extended period of difficult trading conditions.
LayTec AG, a manufacturer of in-situ metrology for MOCVD processes, has acquired the majority of tangible and intangible assets of Optical Reference Systems (ORS).
Commenting on the ORS liquidation in August 2011 after an extended period of difficult trading conditions, Thomas Zettler, CEO & president of LayTec, stated, “The R&D team of ORS did a great job during the last 3 years in developing complementary metrology technologies. These technologies now will be integrated into LayTec’s EpiCurve TT and EpiTT product families.”
“Specifically, combining the full range of in-situ technologies with our brand new software platform EpiNet2.0 will enable all our industry customers to meet the current challenges of yield enhancement and LED performance improvements for solid-state lighting related manufacturing,” he continued.
Neil Gerrard, former MD of ORS and now president of LayTec UK, adds, “The R&D team is very happy to have joined forces with the LayTec organisation in Berlin. We have been welcomed as partners into this excellent organisation supplying both, global industry and academia, with cutting edge integrated metrology products.”

Connecting the Compound Semiconductor Industry
The 13th CS International conference builds on the strengths of its predecessors, with around 40 leaders from industry and academia delivering presentations that fall within five key themes: Ultrafast Communication; Making Headway with the MicroLED; Taking the Power from Silicon, New Vectors for the VCSEL, and Ultra-wide Bandgap Devices.
Delegates attending these sessions will gain insight into device technology, find out about the current status and the roadmap for the compound semiconductor industry, and discover the latest advances in tools and processes that will drive up fab yields and throughputs.
