PowerAmerica Request For Project Proposals

News

Topics include EV traction, the efficiency and reliability of the power grid, and high frequency FET losses

PowerAmerica, a member of Manufacturing USA focused on wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor technology, has issued a request for proposals for the latest Round of Member Initiated Project funding. Responses are due June 23, 2022.

The topics are related to electric vehicle traction, the efficiency and reliability of the power grid, and obtaining a better understanding of high frequency losses in FETs.

The topics have been developed by PowerAmerica members based on the PowerAmerica Technology Roadmap and working group discussions. Each topic addresses a technical challenge faced by producers and/or users of SiC and GaN semiconductor technology in different applications.

Successful projects are expected to strengthen the SiC and GaN semiconductor ecosystem and help accelerate the adoption of SiC and GaN power electronics. In doing so, PowerAmerica's efforts contribute to energy savings, new job creation and strengthening US. manufacturing and critical infrastructure.

Member Initiated Projects (MIP) establish a process for supporting technology development that is focused on pre-competitive, yet critical needs of the broad wide bandgap community. MIPs provide a mechanism for Institute members to collectively identify the highest priority projects that are needed to advance WBG commercialisation and to direct resources to address those challenges. Successful projects yield tangible results that benefit members.

New proposals will be accepted from members and non-members. Non-members will be required to join PowerAmerica if their proposal is selected for funding.

These projects are funded by member dues and other revenue-generating activities that the Institute performs (no direct federal funding). A small working group composed of members works with PowerAmerica staff to administer the MIP program.

More information can be found on the PowerAmerica website.
