Palomino Labs ships microLED light engine prototypes
Palomino Laboratories, a US microLED start-up, has announced that it has shipped its first-gen microLED light engine prototypes, with 2nd-gen sampling planned by Q3 FY26.
The company has also just signed an agreement to acquire Vega Links, which it says will transform Palomino Labs into a next-generation AI interconnect company supporting copper, microVCSELs and microLEDs.
The firm has a mission to replace copper with microLED in data centres to reduce energy consumption related to interconnects by 6x, combined with 10x higher shoreline density. It is targeting ~10 Tbps/mm — a step-change in data throughput for AI and next-generation compute, using patented WDM that enables 2+ wavelengths per microLED.
Along with its own IP, Palomino Labs has licensed 15 patents from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Academic partners include the University of California on GaN photonics and University of Central Florida CREOL on optical coupling.
