TriQuint Semiconductor Introduces 2.488 Gb/s Sonet/SDH Transmitter And Receiver Integrated Circuits With The Industry's Lowest Published Jitter Performance

Provides Picosecond Jitter Generation And Integrated Laser Driver Circuit Enabling Full Compliance At The System Level To ANSI, Bellcore, And ITU Jitter Specs

HILLSBORO, OREGON. TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. has released the second set of products in its new catalog family of 2.488 Gb/s OC-48/STM-16 integrated circuits. These standard products complement the company s leadership products in the 2.5 Gb/s ASIC market and are intended for highly integrated telecom transmission, tributary, bus interconnect, line card, and packet switch backbone, applications. The TQ8214 and TQ8224 feature a user programmable 16/8 bit wide PECL data bus interface (complementing the previously announced TQ8213 and TQ8223 which feature a 32 bit wide TTL data bus interface) allowing their use in legacy systems needing improved jitter performance or in new systems utilizing the latest PECL interface OverHead Processors. The TQ8214 multiplexer incorporates high performance PLL-based clock synthesis in addition to a fully back-terminated 50-ohm, 10-75mA-laser driver (or a 0.5V to 3.75V electro-optical modulator driver), in a single monolithic device. The TQ8214 provides the lowest published jitter generation in the industry, 1pS typical and 2pS maximum, while simultaneously providing compliant jitter-transfer characteristics, at any of the available reference clock frequencies including 19.44, 38.88, 51.84, 78.86, 155.52, 311.04, and 622.08 MHz. The clock synthesis, multiplexer and driver combination provides the highest available component margin to meet the SONET/SDH system maximum jitter generation specification of 4pS, and the jitter transfer specification of less than 0.1 dB peaking and 2 MHz bandwidth. These features allow significant system cost and complexity reductions while simultaneously providing maximum performance. The TQ8224 demultiplexer incorporates a PLL-based clock and data recovery function in addition to a bit slip function to align the received bits into words for format independent framing of received data. This allows use of the product in non-SONET/SDH applications. The integrated clock and data recovery function provides reduced optical module cost while providing standards-compliant jitter performance. The high-speed serial inputs will accept differential or single ended PECL or analog inputs with 40-mV sensitivity. Both products are fully compliant with ANSI, Bellcore, and ITU jitter requirements. Art Gass, TriQuint s Marketing Manager of Telecom Products said, "The TQ8214 and TQ8224 are the newest TriQuint products in a long line of 2.5 Gb/s telecom products spanning almost a decade. These new catalog parts continue to build on our expertise and ability to provide premium performance 2.5Gb/s integrated circuits to major telecom manufacturers. These products provide superior performance and lower cost integrated systems solutions with expanded capabilities."
