Uniroyal Technology Corporation Sees Increasing Demand For HB-LEDS; Doubling Reactor Capacity For High Brightness Blue/Green Colors

SARASOTA, Fla. Citing a very strong market demand for high brightness light emitting diodes (HB-LEDs), Howard R. Curd, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Uniroyal Technology Corporation (Nasdaq: UTCI), announced today that the Company will be doubling its capacity for HB-LEDs for the blue and green colors by purchasing two additional D180 Emcore reactors.

"We are doubling our reactor capacity based on strong market growth expectations and the exceptional interest we are receiving from customers for our high brightness capabilities," Curd noted. The additional reactors are expected to be commercially ready by June 2000.

Uniroyal Technology Corporation expects to be selling HB-LEDs from its Tampa facility in late December. The facility will produce high brightness blue and green LEDs as well as red, orange and yellow colors. High brightness LEDs are used for applications such as traffic signals, indoor and outdoor signage and automotive lighting.

Uniroyal Technology Corporation manufactures and sells proprietary plastic products and specialty chemical and polymer products. The Company has four business segments: High Performance Plastics, Coated Fabrics, Specialty Adhesives and Optoelectronics.
