ANADIGICS Introduces Innovative Multi-mode, Multi-band PHEMT Switches with Integrated Decoder for Wireless Handsets

3-Volt single supply GaAs RF switches with internal CMOS decoder simplify multi-mode, multi-band wireless handset designs

Warren, NJ. ANADIGICS expanded its wireless device portfolio today by unveiling a new line of integrated single-pole four-throw (SP4T) antenna switches with internal decoders at the Wireless Symposium/Portable by Design Conference in San Jose, CA. The innovative 3-Volt PHEMT switches simplify digital and analog multi-mode, multi-band cellular handset designs by integrating logic control and RF band & mode selection in a small, cost-effective plastic package.

The new switches include the AWS5509S17 tri-band SP4T switch for GSM, DCS, and PCS operation and the AWS5510S20 dual-band SP4T switch for AMPS/TDMA 800 and AMPS 1900 handset applications.

"ANADIGICS continues to utilize its strong technology portfolio to provide wireless handset designers with easy to use, cost-effective solutions that shorten time to market and shrink designs," explains Glenn Fraser, Vice President of Wireless Communication Products, ANADIGICS. "These new integrated switches are unique because they deliver the outstanding performance required by the latest wireless handsets while simplifying the overall phone design."

In addition to reducing component count and eliminating interconnects, the single supply switches demonstrate the low insertion loss (0.4 dB typical for the AWS5510S20), high isolation (better than 20-dB between all ports), and low harmonics (better than -65 dBc) required by the most demanding wireless handset designs. The devices feature +2.7 VDC CMOS compatible control and have no negative voltage requirements.

The AWS5509S17 tri-band PHEMT antenna switch is housed in a TSSOP-20 surface mount package and is priced at $2.25 in quantities of 100,000 units. The AWS5510S20 dual-band switch is housed in a TSSOP-16 surface-mount package and is priced at $2.10 in quantities of 100,000 units. Samples of the new switches are available in April 2000. The devices are manufactured at the Company s state-of-the-art facility in New Jersey and are 100% tested before shipping.

ANADIGICS (NASDAQ: ANAD) designs and manufactures radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) solutions for growing broadband and wireless communications markets. The Company s innovative high frequency RFICs enable manufacturers of communications equipment to enhance overall system performance, manufacturing cost, and time to market. By utilizing state-of-the-art manufacturing processes for its RFICs, ANADIGICS achieves the high-volume, and cost-effective products required by leading companies in its targeted high-growth communications markets.
