ANADIGICS Introduces the World's First High-Speed Integrated Fiber Optic Datacom Receivers with Patented Automatic Gain Control

The Company Expands Its Portfolio of Award-Winning Datacom Products to Deliver 2.5 Gb/s Data Rates From a Single +3.3 Volt Supply

BALTIMORE. ANADIGICS expanded its portfolio of fiber optic integrated datacom products with the introduction of the world s first 2.5Gb/s integrated detector and pre-amplifiers (IDPs) at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) in Baltimore, MD. The AMT8300T46F/L and AMT8400T46F/L receivers operate from a single 3-volt supply and provide high-speed data handling for 800nm and 1300nm fiber applications. The new devices, which detect fiber optic signals and convert them into electrical signals, enable small form factor transceivers for high-speed 2X Fibre Channel and emerging 2.5Gb/s Infiniband fiber optic networks.

"Increasing demands for bandwidth in the communications infrastructure, are accelerating the adoption of higher data rate standards throughout the fiber communications markets, remarks Dr. Bami Bastani, President & CEO, ANADIGICS. "ANADIGICS is expanding its available markets by introducing a series of integrated fiber receivers that target high data rate applications.

Utilizing ANADIGICS patented automatic gain control (AGC) technology, the AMT8300 offers minimum sensitivity of -20 dBm and optical overload of better than 0 dBm for 850-nm applications and the AMT8400 features minimum sensitivity of -23 dBm and optical overload of better than 0 dBm for 1300-nm systems. With a bandwidth of 1800 MHz, the IDPs offer a wide dynamic range, which translates to greater flexibility in system design and applications. Such a wide dynamic range allows designers to expand the transmission distance of their fiber links, and it provides additional margin in the overall receiver design, allowing greater flexibility in selecting subsequent components in the receive chain.

"We continue to expand our portfolio of leading fiber optic products to address the growing high-speed telecom and datacom markets, explains Phil Wallace, Vice President of Fiber Communications Products, ANADIGICS. ``Building upon our award-winning line of 1.25 Gb/s datacom receivers, these 2.5 Gb/s products are the first of several high performance receivers to be introduced this year.

The AMT8300 is priced at $40 and the AMT8400 is priced at $50 in quantities of 1,000 units. The 2.5 Gb/s IDPs are housed in TO-46 ultra flat window or ball lens packages which enables the products to be used in 1X9, GBIC, and small form factor applications. Samples are available now.

The devices are designed and 100% RF and optically tested before shipping at the company s state-of-the-art facility in New Jersey. For additional information on this new product, contact ANADIGICS by phone (908) 668-5000 or FAX (908) 668-5132.
