Coherent Semiconductor Group Introduces Full-Feature, Microprocessor-Controlled, Single-Core, Fiber-Coupled Laser Diode System
Santa Clara, CA. Coherent, Inc., Semiconductor Group (CSG) (NASDAQ: COHR) introduces the "F-Package" System-a stand-alone, microprocessor-controlled, large-core-optical-fiber-delivered laser diode system in wavelengths from 650 nm to 980 nm.
The integrated F-Package System eliminates the need for a separate thermal management platform and a laboratory-style power supply. The module consists of a fiber-coupled, single-stripe laser diode (rated from 0.2W to 2.5W, depending on the configuration) mounted on an active air-cooled heat sink with an optional thermoelectric cooler capable of regulating laser diode case temperature from 10° to 40° C, along with all necessary laser diode and TEC drive and control electronics. Measuring 120 x 260 x 360 mm and weighing just 4.0 kg, this compact and easy-to-use package is portable and plugs into a standard wall socket.
Using the F-Package laser diode as its engine, the F-Package System allows users to swap-out laser diodes at different wavelengths in order to support a wide variety of applications, such as soldering, epoxy curing, medical therapeutics, graphic arts and pumping solid-state laser media. The system delivers its optical radiation through a 0.5 m-long fiber extending from the front panel. For easy integration, the fiber can be terminated with an SMA, ST or FC optical fiber connector. Moreover, the microprocessor-based F-Package System provides the user complete control of operating temperature and laser diode current, and can be operated with the front-panel buttons or remotely via a programmable controller.
