Trikon Wins Major Order for Optical Semiconductor Production; 8 Plasma Systems Ordered for Expansion of Optical Semiconductor Device Production

NEWPORT, Wales, United Kingdom. Trikon Technologies, Inc., (Trikon, OTC-BB:TRKN), a technology leader in semiconductor capital equipment, today announced that a major North American communications company has ordered eight plasma etch and CVD systems for a broad range of processes for the manufacture of indium phosphide optoelectronic devices.

"Our customer is an acknowledged leader in high speed semiconductor devices for both optical and wireless devices. We are proud to be part of their expansion," said Nigel Wheeler, Trikon president and chief executive officer. "This order is a significant endorsement for Trikon. This is a new account for us and in order to win this order we had to demonstrate superior technologies and world class support."

Mr. Wheeler continued, "Once again Trikon has shown itself capable of winning business for multiple technologies for advanced processes. This order was for a combination of M0RI(TM) and ICP technologies on the Omega(R) single chamber platform for plasma etching indium phosphide and dielectric layers and Delta(TM) single chamber plasma CVD systems depositing a range of dielectric materials. It establishes Trikon as the vendor of choice for production plasma processing on compound materials used for high-speed applications such as wireless and opto devices."

Optoelectronic devices such as semiconductor lasers and receivers are an essential part of fiber optic based interconnectivity. Fiber optics provide the highest speed and band width for fixed line connections enabling high speed networking and Internet access.

Other recent news from Trikon includes:

- 1999 profitable with product sales up 92% on 1998

- The first Asian order for Low K Flowfill(TM) from Silterra(TM)

- The first production orders for Low K Flowfill(TM) from LSI Logic Corporation

- LSI s report stating that the use of Low K Flowfill(TM) in their device designs made possible "an immediate performance gain of nearly 25% over similar designs using standard dielectric materials, but at no significant extra cost."
