ANADIGICS Reverse Amplifier is Selected by Motorola for Communications Gateway IP Telephony Product

DOCSIS Compliant Reverse Amplifier Will be Instrumental in the Convergence of Voice, Data, and Video in Cable Systems for the Home

Warren, NJ. Motorola Broadband Communications Sector (NYSE: MOT) has selected ANADIGICS (NASDAQ: ANAD) ARA1400I reverse amplifier for use in its CentriQ 1000 Communications Gateway product. Providing the latest in communications technology, the CentriQ 1000 links home-based communications systems to an external cable television (CATV) system, delivering voice, data, and video to the home.

"Our Communication Gateway required a reverse amplifier that met DOCSIS requirements and was robust enough to stand up to the demanding requirements of the overall system, which is the primary gateway and network control for home delivery of IP telephony and data over the CATV network," remarks Marc Kauffman, Vice President of IPNS Engineering at Motorola. "The reverse amplifier from ANADIGICS incorporates an integrated digitally-controlled precision step attenuator, which allows us to provide the type of reliable, quality performance we need to satisfy our customer s requirements."

"ANADIGICS continues to expand its relationship with Motorola, the leader in broadband cable and broadcast solutions, to support the emerging IP-telephony market," notes Dr. Bami Bastani, President & CEO, ANADIGICS. "Our industry-leading cable products are well positioned to be major contributors to the convergence of voice, data, and video over cable."

The ARA1400I is a highly integrated solution, featuring a reverse amplifier, a precision step attenuator, and RF switching capabilities. "By integrating numerous DOCSIS required functions in one device we provide our customers with a high-performance, space-saving solution that reduces design time and cost," reports Ron Michels, Vice President of Cable and Broadcast Products at ANADIGICS.

Delivering up to 33 dB gain at 5 volt operation, the ARA1400I GaAs reverse amplifier with step attenuator provides the lowest distortion and best output noise power performance in the industry, while meeting all MCNS/DOCSIS standards developed by the cable industry. The integrated precision attenuator varies gain in 4 dB steps over a range of 56 dB, providing greater performance than variable gain amplifiers. The use of a precision step attenuator insures that the ARA1400I satisfies the tight DOCSIS specifications for attenuation accuracy.
