LumiLeds Lighting Wins $3M Order for SnapLED Product From Major Manufacturer in Transportation Industry
New SnapLED(TM) Technology Gaining Acceptance in Automotive Lighting Worldwide
San Jose, CA. LumiLeds Lighting, the world leader in power LED modules for lighting, announced today that it has received a $3M order for its SnapLED product from a major manufacturer in the transportation industry.
This order will be filled over the next eighteen months to meet the manufacturer s production schedule. The manufacturer s name was not disclosed as they are preparing for a major product announcement later this year. The SnapLED product is an innovative lighting solution that combines high-powered LEDs (light emitting diodes) clinched to a metal substrate. This solution provides automotive manufacturers with a robust, thin lighting solution for exterior lighting applications. Robust because LEDs are solid state technology, thus no filaments to break on a rough ride or trunk slam. And because the LEDs are so thin, reduced tail lamp thickness means a notable increase in trunk space for the consumer. In Addition, LEDs offer a safety benefit by turning on faster than incandescent lights. This fast turn-on time translates into an additional car-length of stopping distance at 60mph.
Because of its design, the SnapLED allows lighting manufacturers to use fewer LEDs in their lighting modules compared to traditional "5mm" LEDs -- thus significantly reducing overall cost. LumiLeds Lighting recently received the Automotive News/Ernst & Young PACE award for product innovation for the SnapLED.
