Fujitsu Compound Semiconductor, Inc. Announces a Tunable LD Module with Wavelocker for Long Haul and Metropolitan DWDM Applications

Fujitsu Compound Semiconductor, Inc. (FCSI) of San Jose, CA announces a new Tunable Laser Diode module with an integrated Fabry-Perot etalon for wavelength locking. The FLD5F6CA has a high power CW laser (10 dBm) with polarization maintaining fiber that is intended for use with an external modulator. A 13 dBm version of this product is expected to be released during the second half of this year. The FLD5F6CA can be tuned across 2.4 nm (4 ITU-T 100 GHz spaced channels) via adjustment of the chip temperature with the included TEC. The included wave locker allows the user to effectively "lock" the output wavelength to an ITU grid channel and remove any wavelength drift effects that may arise from the CW laser over its lifetime. It is ideal for use in DWDM systems with channel spacings of 100 GHz or less. a common design for detector devices used in receiver systems for gigabit rate optical communications.

This device comes in a compact 14 pin butterfly package. It operates between 0-70 deg C and requires 80 mA of drive current (typical). The integrated CW laser/wavelocker combination offers a substantial savings in board space over current solutions which use separate lasers and external wavelockers. This laser is available at any of the 52 ITU-T wavelengths in the C band (1528.77-1569.59 nm) as well as any of the 44 ITU-T L band channels (1570.42-1606.60 nm).

These products are manufactured by Fujitsu Quantum Devices, Limited, in the world s largest compound semiconductor facility in the prefecture of Yamanashi, Japan. These operations are ISO 9002 certified, with support facilities strategically located throughout the world for assembly and test. Fujitsu performs 100% testing to insure quality and reliability.

FCSI s products include microwave and millimeter wave RF devices for cellular, handset, broadcast and satellite communications; lasers and photo detector devices for the newest photonic communications systems such as fibre channel, gigabit Ethernet, and OC-192 / 10Gbps telecom systems; and ultrahigh speed logic for the highest performing super computers and workstations.

Fujitsu Compound Semiconductor, Inc., headquartered in San Jose, California, is part of the Fujitsu Limited group of companies, and is the North American sales, service and design facility for Compound Semiconductor devices used in the data communications and telecommunications industry. FCSI brings to North American and selected international markets a combination of local engineering and technical support backed by the manufacturing strength of Fujitsu s Japanese and overseas factories.
