TriQuint Semiconductor Introduces Battery Saving LNAs for CDMA Cell Phone Applications

HILLSBORO, Ore. These PCs and Cellular Band ICs Allow True Tri-Mode CDMA Operation with the Benefit of Longer Handset Battery Life

TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq:TQNT) announces the release of its latest RFICs in a series of CDMA products for handset applications. The TQ3132 LNA, designed specifically for Cellular band CDMA/AMPS receive applications, and the TQ3632 LNA, designed specifically for PCS band CDMA receive applications, meet the requirements of both IS-95 and AMPS standards. In addition, the lower operating currents (30% lower than previously available devices) allows longer standby operation or smaller battery size for handsets.

When used as a pair, the LNAs provide a tri-mode operation in the 800 MHz and 1900 MHz bands. Both LNAs incorporate on-chip switches, which select high, low, and bypass gain modes. When the TQ3132 is used with the TQ5131 or TQ5132 CDMA/AMPS mixer (and the TQ3632 is used with the TQ5631 or TQ5633 CDMA mixer), the RFIC set provides full receiver functionality including four electronically selectable gain states and AMPS mode. With this selectability, the handset designer can optimize for current consumption, linearity, and gain.

PERFORMANCE

Both devices exhibit excellent noise figure performance with the 800 MHz part at 1.4 dB typical and the 1900 MHz part at 1.5 dB typical. Likewise, input intercept points are +8.0 dBm for the 800 MHz part and +7.0 dBm for the 1900 MHz part typical. Gain levels are similar at 13 dB for the 800 MHz part and 12.5 for the 1900 MHz part at max gain settings. Supply current ranges from a maximum of 9.5 mA at highest gain and linearity settings to 1.0 mA in the bypass mode.

Ms. Cathy Arb, TriQuint s Wireless Division Product Engineer said, "These devices provide customers a low noise, low current and high IIP3 solution. There are several integrated advantages on-chip, which keep cost and size to a minimum. The TQ3132 and TQ3632 are packaged in small SOT23-8 packages providing customers with the ability to strategically place them around the filters."

PACKAGE

Both LNAs are packaged in small, SOT23-8 packages to minimize PC board space utilization.

PRICE AND DELIVERY

Pricing for the TQ3132 CDMA/AMPS LNA is $0.97 and for the TQ3632 CDMA PCS LNA is $0.97, in 1000 piece quantities. Both RFICs are available from stock.

SUPPORT

Technical support is available along with data sheets, evaluation boards, and application notes. The TQ3132 and TQ3632 data sheets are available on TriQuint s website in pdf format (http://www.triquint.com/Products/Wireless/TQ3132/TQ3132.pdf and http://www.triquint.com/Products/Wireless/TQ3632/TQ3632.pdf.)
