Picogiga Purchases More Production Equipment For 6 Inch Wafers And Decides Upon The Construction Of A New Production Facility

Responding to the very strong demand for 6-inch epitaxial wafers from both the USA as well as Europe, PICOGIGA has ordered three more Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) reactors from Riber. These new generation MBE machines can grow seven 6-inch wafers per run instead of four, which is the current standard. This will allow a 75% increase in productivity. These machines can also grow 4-inch wafers with the same gain in productivity. With these new production tools, PICOGIGA s production capacity will be doubled at the end of 2001, as compared to this year. These new machines will be installed in the existing building.

Chairman Linh Nuyen comments: " With these new machines, we become the largest producer of MBE wafers worldwide. Our expansion program will continue. Our present facility will be fully occupied in 2001. To prepare for future expansion, we have purchased 8000 square meters of land next to the present facility. The construction of a new facility will begin at the end of this year. We will have two independent production centers close to each other. This represent an ideal back up solution for our customers."
