EMCORE Completes Expansion Of NJ Manufacturing Facility, Increasing Capacity By 400 Percent
Corporate Offices Move to New Headquarters
Somerset, NJ. EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR) has announced that it has completed its second phase of expansion at its Somerset, NJ manufacturing facility and has moved its corporate offices to a new facility located nearby.
The expansion of the Somerset, NJ manufacturing facility significantly increases production capacity for EMCORE s existing photonics, RF materials, devices and MOCVD tool product lines; and enables EMCORE to develop new product lines and meet the requirements of a rapidly expanding customer base.
Earlier this year, EMCORE completed the first phase expansion of its RF materials division and doubled production capacity to meet market demand for its InGaP HBT and pHEMT products used in fiber optic and wireless communication devices. The second phase of the expansion adds 7,000 square feet of space, which will increase the electronic material production capability by nearly 4 times. The expansion will accommodate the addition of 10 new Enterprise Electronic Materials MOCVD production tools, engineered and manufactured by EMCORE, for the high volume production of pHEMTs and HBTs. This will bring the total number of production tools in operation to 18, whereby 360,000 six-inch wafers can be produced annually. The facility expansion also more than doubles EMCORE s characterization capabilities to ensure the unrestricted flow of high quality epitaxial materials.
"The wireless and fiber optic communications markets are growing at a tremendous pace, resulting in increased orders for our pHEMT and HBT epitaxial materials," said Reuben Richards, President and CEO of EMCORE. "This new capacity, which increases our production capabilities by 400%, will enable EMCORE to expand capacity for current customers as well as address new customers and markets with new products. We will continue to build capacity consistent with demand for our custom or standard epitaxial wafers, devices and tools to ensure our customers receive unprecedented cycle time and on-time delivery."
The second-phase expansion also increases the manufacturing capacity of EMCORE s electronic device division and MOCVD tool division. The electronic device division of EMCORE has been expanded to augment EMCORE s capability to produce photo-detectors for high speed array tranceivers. With the additional space, EMCORE s capital equipment division, which manufactures market leading MOCVD tools, has the ability to manufacture 225 MOCVD tools per year.
Paul Rotella, Vice President of the MOCVD Tool Division said, "The extension of our manufacturing capability will enable EMCORE to meet the rapidly growing demand for our MOCVD tools, and will provide us with the necessary space to further develop our successful line of MOCVD tools used for the production of epitaxial materials for various devices in wireless communications, solid state lighting, transportation and consumer electronics applications."
The Somerset, NJ manufacturing facility is now 80,000 square feet, and EMCORE s corporate offices are now located next door at 145 Belmont Drive in a new 40,000-square-foot facility.
