24-Volt Amplifier Enables State-Of-The-Art Broadband Cable Infrastructure Systems

WARREN, N.J. ANADIGICS (NASDAQ:ANAD - news), a leading supplier of wireless and broadband communications solutions, has expanded its broadband product line with the introduction of a high performance, low cost cable distribution amplifier that meets increased demands for advanced services and additional bandwidth in cable distribution networks. The ACA2401S7 is a 24-volt amplifier that provides exceptionally low distortion and noise figure, and also satisfies the European Cenelec Specification. The high performance amplifier is designed for broadband cable distribution systems, including head-ends, distribution networks, fiber nodes, line expanders, and system amplifiers.

``ANADIGICS continues to lead the way in providing solutions for the growing demands of new CATV architectures that enable broadband interactive services over cable, remarked Dr. Bami Bastani, President and CEO of ANADIGICS, Inc. ``We continue to grow our share in the attractive broadband markets and expand our industry-leading portfolio of broadband cable products. This high performance amplifier has already been designed into our largest cable infrastructure customer.

``The ACA2401S7 CATV amplifier, which targets 870 MHz CATV systems, delivers higher performance than the standard hybrids, allowing cable service providers to use fewer amplifiers in the overall distribution stream, noted Ron Michels, Vice President of Cable and Broadcast Products. ``By providing the amplifier in a small surface-mount package, the device reduces overall system manufacturing costs by enabling fully automated assembly.

The device consists of two pair of parallel amplifiers, which provide flat gain and excellent input and output return loss. A hybrid equivalent is created when one ACA2401S7 is cascaded between two transmission baluns. Additionally, it features 21.5 dB gain, 18 dB min. return loss and a 4.5 dB max. noise figure.

The ACA2401S7 line amplifier is housed in a 16 pin SOIC and is priced at $18.45 in quantities of 10,000. The ACA2401S7 is fabricated in ANADIGICS state-of-the-art 6-inch GaAs production facility and is 100% RF tested before shipping.
