Alpha Wins RF Semiconductor Production Order From Sony Corporation

Source: Alpha Industries

Alpha Products Are Designed into Sony s Next-Generation Wireless Handsets

Woburn, MA. Alpha Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq:AHAA) today announced that it has received a high-volume production order for RF semiconductors from Sony Corporation. Alpha s semiconductors are being used in Sony s newly released, next-generation wireless handsets, which combine voice, data and wireless Internet access.

"This high-volume order from Sony represents an important vote of confidence from the number-one consumer electronics company in the world," said Alpha President and CEO David Aldrich. "This is Alpha s first product to be designed into a Sony wireless handset, and it represents yet another important success in our strategy of diversifying our wireless OEM customer base."

In just the past fiscal quarter, Alpha dramatically diversified its roster of wireless customers by substantially increasing production-volume semiconductor shipments to Mitsubishi, Samsung and Siemens. At the same time, the company placed power amplifiers and switches in Motorola s three recently announced new phones. In the wireless infrastructure market, Alpha posted significant increases in sales to Alcatel, Ericsson and Nokia, increasing its positions in both 2.5 and 3G platforms.

Alpha s RF semiconductor shipments to Sony are critical to the new handset s ability to perform complex, high-speed switching functions while drawing minimal power to increase battery life. "In addition to introducing new, high-performance RF products, we have positioned the company to handle large production orders while meeting the industry s most demanding lead times," said Aldrich.
