Stanford Microdevices' Power Amplifier RFICs Deliver Unmatched Linearity For Cellular/PCS/3G Applications

Source: Stanford Devices

Sunnyvale, CA. Stanford Microdevices (Nasdaq:SMDI), a leading designer and supplier of high-performance radio-frequency (RF) components for communications equipment manufacturers, today introduced its SPA Series of power amplifier radio-frequency integrated circuits (RFICs). These products offer cellular, PCS and 3G equipment designers a level of linearity performance formerly unavailable in a single integrated circuit. The amplifiers are ideal for the most demanding wireless network system requirements.

"The introduction of these ultra-linear power amplifiers continues our strategy of expanding our Standard Product portfolio to encompass broadly applicable high-performance amplifier solutions for our worldwide OEM customers," stated Greg Baker, SMDI s vice president and general manager for Standard Products. "The combination of power and linearity in IC form featured in the SPA Series is only available from SMDI."

These gallium-arsenide (GaAs) heterojunction-bipolar-transistor (HBT) devices cover the 850 MHz, 1950 MHz and 2150 MHz frequency bands and serve as excellent driver amplifiers for base station and repeater applications. Housed in standard surface-mount SOIC-8 plastic packages with backside metallization, the amplifiers provide the exceptional linearity demanded by advanced network modulation standards.

SPA Series devices are powered with a single +5V supply voltage and offer typical third-order intercept points of +48 dBm. An on-chip active bias circuit provides consistent bias performance over temperature. The units are priced at $10.95 each in quantities of 50,000.

Stanford Microdevices, Inc., an ISO-9002 certified manufacturer headquartered in Sunnyvale, California with design centers throughout the U.S. and Canada, is a leading supplier of high-performance RF components for the wireless and wireline telecommunications markets. SMDI s products include power modules, low-noise amplifiers, high-linearity gain blocks, high-performance transistors, modulators, switches, mixers, upconverters and downconverters, and high-performance multicomponent modules (MCMs) for transmit and receive applications.
