San Jose, CA. Nova Crystals Inc., a developer of novel laser components for fiber-optic data/telecommunications applications, has secured new facilities that will enable the high volume production of long wavelength VCSELs for short-to-long haul, high-bandwidth telecommunications.

The 40,000-sq.-ft. building, located in San Jose, is currently being customized for Nova Crystals, and will expand the company s production floor space fivefold. Additionally, the acquisition includes approximately $10 million in production equipment and a team of a dozen engineers.

"We re already experiencing tremendous demand for our proprietary VCSEL-based products," noted Felix Ejeckam, Nova Crystals chief executive officer. "This expansion will enable us to meet this rising demand and provide the high level of service necessary to dominate our segment of the telecommunications business."

Nova Crystals Inc., founded in September 1998, develops and manufactures fiber-optic data/telecommunications components based on their proprietary process and wafer technologies, as well as high efficiency LEDs for display and illumination applications. Nova Crystals Inc., is a privately held corporation backed by strategic and venture capital. The company was founded by leading fiber-optic researchers at Cornell University.
