RF Micro Devices Introduces Cellular CDMA LNA and PA Driver Amplifier with Bypass Switch

RF2369 Features Low Bypass Loss, High IIP3 and Adjustable Bias Current

Pheonix, AZ (2001 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium). RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, announced today the availability of the RF2369 low noise amplifier (LNA) and power amplifier (PA) driver amplifier for the cellular Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) handset market.

"The RF2369 is our latest generation of CDMA cellular LNAs and allows us to strengthen our leadership position for these products in the Korean market for both domestic and export phones," said Mike Coady CDMA/W-CDMA marketing manager for digital cellular products. "Our customers have requested that a low bypass loss function be added to the LNA to enable a simpler, more robust and cost-effective way of controlling their receiver gain states. This function directly contributesto a faster phone design cycle as well as an improved production test yield of the completed handsets. Customer feedback has been positive, stating that we have the right part meeting the right specifications," said Coady.

The RF2369 is a 3.0V switchable low noise amplifier with a bypass switch and very high dynamic range designed for digital cellular applications. This device functions as a front end LNA with an adjustable bias current that can be set externally. This feature allows the designer flexibility to trade-off RF performance versus current consumption. The RF2369 features a typical low bypass loss of 2 dB. This bypass performance allows a front end design, which meets all IS-98 requirements including Intermodulation Distortion (IMD) testing, using only two gain states and a single logic control line. In high-gain mode, the device exhibits 15.5 dB LNA gain, 11.5 dBm LNA IIP3, and 1.6 dB LNA noise figure.

The RF2369 is manufactured using a GaAs HBT process technology and is offered in a small industry-standard SOT23-6 package. The component is ready for immediate shipment, priced at $0.81 in order quantities of 10,000 units or more. Samples and fully assembled evaluation boards are also available from RFMD.

RF Micro Devices, Inc., an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer, designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications such as cellular and PCS phones, wireless LANs and cable television modems.
