Motorola Delivers Industry's Best Performance in New Gallium Arsenide-based Cable Television Amplifier

Source: Motorola SPS

Allows for Low System Build Costs, Low System Operation Costs And Low Maintenance Costs

Phoenix, AZ. Designed for 870 MHz cable television (CATV) applications, Motorola (NYSE: MOT) introduced today a gallium arsenide-based CATV amplifier engineered to deliver improved system performance by providing maximum output capability.

Motorola s new MHW9187 advanced high-output power doubler was designed with Motorola s proprietary HVPHEMT 2 (High Voltage Pseudomorphic High Electron Mobility Transistor) process. Motorola s HVPHEMT 2 process takes output capability to new levels and allows for a significant decrease in the number of cascaded amplifiers required. The MHW9187 is the first in a series of HVPHEMT 2 based products, with additional products including higher gain output amplifiers and a complete series of preamps in development.

"The MHW9187 is designed to provide our customers maximum output capability to improve system distortion and drive longer lines than previously possible," said Lynelle McKay, director of RF operations for Motorola s Wireless Infrastructure Systems Division. "With its superior performance, the MHW9187 is engineered to allow for the design of more cost effective systems than ever before."

The MHW9187 delivers an operating bandwidth from 40 to 870 MHz and is specified for 79-, 112- and 132-channel performance. Higher voltage enables amplifier designs with larger signal swing. The MHW9187 is housed in the conventional CATV package (Case 1302-01) that offers compatibility with other standard devices. The suggested resale price of the MHW9187 is $38.00 each per 10K quantity (for U.S. delivery only). Production orders of the MHW9187 can be accepted now.
