Customer Confirms Choice of 901G Etch System With Second Order

Petaluma, CA. Tegal Corporation (Nasdaq NM:TGAL) today announced that is has delivered a follow-on order for a 901G plasma etch system from WIN Semiconductors Corporation, a Taiwanese producer of devices for the wireless, information and networking markets. WIN will use the tool to produce pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (PHEMT) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) and heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) devices, which are typically used in cellular phones and other handheld communication appliances. This re-order follows the successful installation of WIN s first Tegal 901G tool in September 2000.

"This second order further reaffirms Tegal s leadership position in delivering high performance solutions that are capable of meeting production requirements for both current and next-generation wireless and telecom applications," said Jim McKibben, Tegal s vice president of worldwide marketing and sales. "The Tegal 901G will support WIN Semiconductor s development of nitride and GaAs processes for wireless and telecom applications. We are pleased to be the etch equipment supplier of choice for this foundry and look forward to building on the partnership in the future."

Tegal s 900 series systems are widely recognized for their low cost of ownership and high-throughput. More than 1,300 of the 900 Series systems have been installed around the world and are supported by an extensive worldwide parts and service organization. Adept at handling both round and square substrates, the 900 Series systems deliver highly reliable, repeatable results in etching a variety of films used to manufacture telecommunications and optoelectronic devices, semiconductors, flat panel displays and thin film magnetic heads. GaAs is a leading "III-V material" used to make integrated devices for leading telephony, data communications, wireless telecommunication and wireline solutions for the Internet. Demand for wireless telecommunication appliances and services are expected to fuel rapid growth for high bandwidth telecommunication devices.

About WIN Semiconductors Corporation WIN Semiconductors is headquartered in Tao Yuan Shien, Taiwan. As the world s first six-inch GaAs foundry, WIN seeks to be recognized as the premier provider of pure-play GaAs MMIC foundry services to the global wireless, information and networking markets. WIN s GaAs fab is a 20,000-square-foot plant capable of making 100,000 six-inch wafers a year. In March 2001, WIN presented the world s first six-inch, 0.15um GaAs pHEMT MMIC wafer. WIN specializes in two types of GaAs processes: heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) and pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (PHEMT) technologies.

About Tegal Corporation Tegal Corporation, headquartered in Petaluma, Calif., is a leading designer and manufacturer of plasma etch systems used in the production of integrated circuits (ICs), opto-telecom devices, MEMS and other related microelectronics devices.
