Agilent Technologies and Corning Cable Systems Announce Agreement to Accelerate Deployment of New Parallel-optics Solutions

Source: Agilent Technologies

PALO ALTO, Calif. and HICKORY, N.C. Agilent Technologies Inc. and Corning Cable Systems today announced an agreement designed to provide the communications industry with a high-volume supply of new parallel-optics solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Agilent and Corning Cable Systems will collaborate to advance the acceptance and adoption of parallel-optics technology in the marketplace. Both companies will work together to provide joint customers with strategic access to Corning Cable Systems passive optical technologies and Agilent Technologies active parallel-optics modules. In addition to aiding in the deployment of Corning® InfiniCor® multimode fiber and 30 Gb/s optical modules, Corning Cable Systems and Agilent will jointly market and support parallel-optics solutions.

Parallel-optics is targeted at high density interconnects for terabit switches and routers, server to server backplane interconnects, and low-cost SONET/SDH OC-192 very short reach (VSR) connections. Parallel-optics technology solves the data capacity and space problems inherent with copper interconnects and existing optical transceivers.

``We are excited to begin work with Corning Cable Systems, said Tom Fawcett, marketing manager for Agilent s Optical Systems Interconnect. ``With this agreement, both Agilent s and Corning Cable Systems customers can expect a complete parallel-optics interconnect solution in high volumes, with unrivaled design support.

``Agilent Technologies is the leading provider of active high-speed parallel-optics networking components, said Stuart Hoiness, vice president of OEM Sales and Marketing, Corning Cable Systems. ``As the industry s leading provider of passive optical products, we have invested heavily in both multifiber assembly performance and capacity to support the industry s rapid move toward parallel networking. This alliance reassures customers of the availability of all necessary active and passive products.

Both companies are currently shipping production volumes of their respective products. For more information on Agilent s parallel-optics modules, please visit www.agilent.com/view/paralleloptics.
