Aachen, Germany and Cranbury, NJ. During the first quarter of this year, AIXTRON AG, the leading producer of MOCVD systems, delivered two model AIX-2400G3 MOCVD reactors to Princeton Lightwave, Inc. (PLI), located in Cranbury, New Jersey. PLI is a leading supplier of high-performance active component solutions for the optical networking industry.

The added production capacity from the two new AIXTRON epitaxial materials growth systems will enable PLI to satisfy the high demand for its WavePower high-performance EDFA and Raman pump modules, WaveRider Broadband GainChips, and WaveHarp tunable distributed-feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser modules.

In April, 2001, PLI reached the 1-watt power level with a single narrow-stripe pump laser chip grown in an AIX 200/4 MOCVD reactor, positioning the company as the market leader in 1480-14xx pumps. PLI is now recognized as a technology leader with broad expertise and experience in manufacturing a wide-range of active optical components.

Based on unique chip level designs, the WaveHarp, WaveRider, and WavePower Series offer superior wavelength stability, reliability, and throughput at industry leading power levels. With power to spare, Princeton Lightwave s products set the new standards of performance for optical components, enable its customers to deliver more bandwidth at a significantly lower cost with fewer optical amplifiers and less complex system designs.

"AIXTRON s long experience in developing MOCVD technologies and responsiveness to the market s constant demand for better quality and larger capacity will help PLI to strengthen its leadership position in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance active component solutions," stated Ray Menna, Co-Founder and Director of Material Growth at Princeton Lightwave.

AIXTRON offers a wide range of epitaxial systems for MOVPE, VPE, and LPE, from R&D-oriented models to large-scale Planetary Reactor® production systems for 25x4" or 9x6" wafers. AIXTRON is the leading supplier of MOCVD equipment for long wavelength laser production at Agere, Alcatel, Anritsu, IQE, JDS-Uniphase, Samsung, Sumitomo Electric, Thales. Other customers include ATMI, AXT, Epistar, Epson, Honeywell, ITT, Kopin, LumiLeds, Motorola, Nortel, Osram, Showa Denko, UEC, VPEC and numerous Japanese corporations. AIXTRON systems have also been installed in the most renowned research institutes worldwide, including JPL, Sandia Nat. Lab., Fraunhofer Institute, ITRI-OES, and CNRS. AIXTRON is very active in advancing MOCVD technology through collaborations and joint R&D projects with major partners worldwide.

Headquartered in Cranbury, NJ, PLI designs, develops and delivers high performance optical components for next-generation networks. The company was founded in May 2000 to meet customer needs for quality optical components. PLI s rich product portfolio is based upon unique chip level design and integration technology. Its multi-disciplinary team has built a world-class manufacturing facility to deliver high power Raman and EDFA pump modules, advanced source lasers and Broadband GainChips (BGCs).
