Tegal Receives Follow-on Order for 900 Series Etch System From Global Communication Technology Corporation for Wireless and Networking Applications

Source: Tegal Corporation

Petaluma, CA. Tegal Corporation today announced that is has received a follow-on order from Global Communication Technology Corporation (GCT Corporation) for a 901G plasma etch system. GCT Corporation will use the tool in the production of pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) and heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) devices at its foundry in Hsinchu, Taiwan. These devices are primarily used in the wireless, information and networking industries.

"As GCT Corporation continues to expand its production capabilities, Tegal s etch equipment has provided the flexible and reliable support necessary to ramp-up our nitride and polymide processes," said Ron-Ting Huang, president of GCT Corporation. "The high performance capability of the 901g is an intrinsic part of our manufacturing process, and we look forward to partnering with Tegal in the future."

"Tegal is repeatedly called upon by its customers, such as GCT Corporation, to deliver additional production-proven etch systems. This order is a reconfirmation of the strong market value of Tegal s technologies and the ability of our solutions to deliver high throughput and low operating costs to customers such as GCT Corporation as they continue to expand into production," said Jim McKibben, vice president of worldwide marketing and sales for Tegal.

Tegal s 900 series systems are widely recognized for their low cost of ownership and high-throughput. More than 1,300 of the 900 Series systems have been installed around the world and are supported by an extensive worldwide parts and service organization. Adept at handling both round and square substrates, the 900 Series systems deliver highly reliable, repeatable results in etching a variety of films used to manufacture telecommunications and optoelectronic devices, MEMS, semiconductors, flat panel displays and thin film magnetic heads.

About GCT Corporation Global Communication Technology Corporation (GCT) is a pure-play foundry service for communication components. The company provides high-quality and cost-effective foundry solutions to its customers with advanced technologies, state-of-the-art facilities and responsive customer service. GCT provides 6-inch foundry processes for GaAs MMICs and discrete devices based on HBT (Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors) & pHEMT (pesudomophic High Electron Mobility Transistor) technology. GCT also possesses unique micro-machining processes that are critical to manufacture trench waveguides in glass or silicon to form high-perform passive integrated optical components (e.g. arrayed waveguide grading (AWG), couplers, isolators, and optical channel motors) for use in optical communications. In addition, GCT offers foundry services for advanced RF and IF Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) and Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) devices. The company s Web site can be found at .
