Coherent Semiconductor Division Introduces 100-Watt Peak Power 900-nm Unmounted Diode Laser Bars

Santa Clara, CA. Coherent, Inc., Semiconductor Division (CSD) (Nasdaq: COHR) has introduced high peak-power QCW unmounted diode lasers bars emitting in the 900 nm wavelength range. Consisting of 90% fill-factor, 100W peak power diode laser bars, the new 900 nm product is ideal for integration into a host of solid-state laser pumping applications, specifically Yb:sFAP, as well as direct-diode target illumination markets.
"Our new 900-nm unmounted diode laser bars provide yet another option within our extensive product range for OEMs and researchers," said Merrill Apter, vice president of sales and service for Coherent Semiconductor Division. "And these bars have been shown to perform exceptionally well in work at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (details of this were presented in Laser Diode Array Packages in Silicon Using V-Groove Technology), a paper given at the Advanced Solid-State Lasers Conference in Seattle, Washington in late January, 2001."
On the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory package, these bars delivered 100W peak power at 900 nm at 115 amperes drive current. The pulsewidth was 1000 microseconds at 1% duty cycle. The power conversion efficiency was 45%, the spectral width was less than 3 nm, FWHM, and the beam divergence was less than 35º by 10º, FWHM.
