T-Networks scores design wins for InP modulators
By exploiting the high-performance qualities of InP, T-Networks integrated solutions approach to product development enables the company to introduce performance characteristics superior to those available with traditional lithium niobate-based products. The company s patented approach integrates the functionality of multiple optical components into one InP-based platform, significantly reducing cost and power consumption for 10 and 40 Gbit/s applications in a footprint nearly one-tenth the size of typical discrete solutions and lithium niobate-based products.
"Through close cooperation between our world-class optical design team and our market-leading customers, T-Networks has developed InP-based optical solutions that are enabling disruptive economies and have achieved cost efficiencies of up to fifty percent over products that utilize discrete optical elements and existing alternative products," said Aaron Fisher, president and CEO, T-Networks. "Our systems-focus has allowed us to attain a significant measure of performance leadership that, in turn, has resulted in tangible customer engagements."
T-Networks has positioned itself to capture significant market share in the metro modulator market, while also addressing future market opportunities in high-speed optical networking, including 40 Gbit/s. The global consumption value of optical modulators will increase at a pace of about 40.3 percent per year over the next five years to $1.37 billion in 2006, according to new data from ElectroniCast Corp. released in December 2001.
Based in Allentown, PA, T-Networks seeks to address a critical need for a solution that resolves size, power and cost issues confronted by optical network infrastructure companies seeking to quickly sell their equipment for implementation in 10 Gbit/s and 40 Gbit/s environments. T-Networks is a privately held, venture-funded company with backing from leading venture firms, including: Greylock Partners, Sequoia Capital, and US Venture Partners. Corporate investors include communication semiconductor companies Intel Capital and Vitesse.
