Alfalight Receives $28 M Funding for 980 nm Pump Lasers Alfalight, a 2-year old high-power diode laser company based in Madison, WI, has secured $28 million in second round venture funding. The investment round was led by Advanced Technology Ventures, and included original investors who provided $6.1 million in funding just 7 months ago. Alfalight manufactures high power, single-mode 980 nm lasers for optical communications applications and 980 nm aluminum-free multi-mode lasers, primarily for the metro amplifier market. These technologies are based on IP exclusively licensed from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Alfalight will use part of the capital to complete a 20,000 sq.ft. building in Madison. The company also recently opened a 15,000 sq.ft. packaging facility near Montreal, Canada.
