SDL to Supply Multi-mode Pump Lasers to IPG Photonics (Fiber Optics News)

SDL (San Jose, CA) is to provide high volumes of multi-mode pump lasers to IPG Photonics (Sturbridge, MA) for various cladding-pumped fiber products. The contract will run through the end of 2002, with expected revenues totaling $66.7 million. Multi-mode pump lasers employ a broad emitting aperture to allow operation at power levels as high as several watts, and are used as cooled or uncooled optical pump sources for active, cladding-pumped fibers. SDL s 6380 multi-mode pump laser and other multi-mode pump lasers will be employed in IPG Photonics industrial fiber lasers, Raman fiber lasers, and various optical amplifier products. These pumps will also be used in IPG Photonics new generation of low-cost metro amplifiers for use in the emerging metro access networks.
