New C-Band EDFA Module from SDL (Fiber Optics News)
SDL has introduced a new range of low cost, small form factor EDFAs. The MA-C series is designed to provide cost effective amplification at specific points in the network to increase deployment flexibility. SDL is currently ramping volume shipments of this product to a number of customers. These micro-amplifiers are well suited to the boosting of individual DWDM channels at the transmitter, as well as pre-amplifying signals at the receiver to increase effective distances or to better handle increasing bit rates. The MA-C can also be used to amplify single channels at an optical switch or wavelength router to compensate for losses, effectively making transparent switching possible.
