DVDs Are Fastest Growing Consumer Electronics Product (Markets, Materials and Equipment)

DVDs are the fastest growing consumer electronics product in history and look set to continue this trend, says Cahners In-Stat, a market research firm based in Scottsdale, AZ. DVD: More Than a Video Player forecasts the worldwide DVD market to grow from 28 million units in 2001 to more than 60 million units by 2004. This is being driven by new features such as DVD-Audio and new products such as TV/DVDs and DVD mini systems. DVD players can read both DVD discs and CDs, which requires the use of lasers at different wavelengths. Typically DVD players employ AlInGaP lasers operating at 650 nm, and 780 nm AlGaAs lasers to read CDs. See .
