RFMD PAs enable automotive system (GaAs News)

RF Micro Devices (Greensboro, NC) has commenced shipping production quantities of GaAs HBT-based PAs for use in Tele Aid, a transport information system developed by Motorola and Mercedes-Benz. The system uses a wireless network to enable data services and information, such as vehicle tracking and positioning by GPS, on-line navigation and emergency assistance. A cellular link provides 24 hour contact with Mercedes-Benz, supplying information on the car itself and indicating the need for roadside assistance or emergency aid. In addition, an automatic collision link notifies emergency units if an air bag deploys. The Tele Aid is a standard feature on all 2001 Mercedes-Benz models (see ).
