Compound Semiconductor in strategic alliance (Headline News)

On February 14 Franklin Publishing, the publishers of this magazine, and Institute of Physics Publishing (Bristol, England) announced a strategic alliance aimed at meeting the rising demand for information resources in the compound semiconductor industry. One of the first fruits of this alliance is an improved look for Compound Semiconductor, introduced in this issue. Franklin Publishing is the leading media company in the compound semiconductor industry. IOP Publishing s portfolio includes the highly respected Physics World and Opto & Laser Europe magazines, as well as several fast-growing publications in the telecommunications field including FiberSystems International, FibreSystems Europe and Wireless Europe (see ). The two companies will work together to further enhance Compound Semiconductor magazine and its associated Web site www.compoundsemiconductor.net. Franklin Publishing will continue to perform all editorial functions for the magazine and Web site, providing both content and direction, and key staff roles will remain unchanged. Marie Meyer, who founded Compound Semiconductor, will remain as managing editor, while Richard Dixon and Tim Whitaker will continue to serve in their current roles as news editor and editor-in-chief, respectively. Under the terms of the alliance, IOP Publishing has acquired ownership of Compound Semiconductor magazine and will take over the production, sales and distribution functions. This alliance will enable new and better products and services to meet the needs of the compound semiconductor industry. Circulation for Compound Semiconductor will be doubled in 2001, distribution in the Asian and European markets will be increased, and delivery times to all locations will be shortened. Enhanced services for advertisers will also be added and the www.compoundsemiconductor.net Web site will be expanded. This site is already the largest of its kind in the industry, hosting 25 000 individual user sessions and more than 100 000 page views per month. In addition, Franklin Publishing and IOP Publishing and will jointly produce a major new event in 2001. To be held in Boston in July, the Compound Semiconductor Manufacturing Expo (CS-MAX) will be the first conference and exposition for the entire compound semiconductor industry to focus on high-volume manufacturing topics. "Everyone at Franklin Publishing is very excited about this alliance," said Marie Meyer. "Working together, we ll be able to greatly enhance and improve the services that we provide to the compound semiconductor industry." "Franklin Publishing has the respect and support of the global compound semiconductor industry. We are delighted to be working with them to further enhance their contribution," said Jerry Cowhig, managing director at IOP Publishing. "Together we expect to expand existing opportunities and create exciting new ones for companies operating in the compound semiconductor field."
