JDSU and Alcatel extend deal (Fiber News)
JDS Uniphase is set to extend the supply of its 980 nm laser diode chips and pump stabilizers to Alcatel Optronics through to the year 2003. Alcatel will use the 980 nm chips, which are manufactured by the former SDL, in its pump modules which are used in submarine DWDM fiber networks. The decision to extend the agreement follows the successful joint qualification and production of a new laser diode, which when packaged in Alcatel s submarine-qualified pump module will provide 200 mW of output power and reliable operation for over 25 years. A range of pump wavelengths are available from 972984 nm. In addition, the power consumption of the total system at 200 mW operation has been reduced by lowering the drive current to 450 mA.
