RF Micro Devices expands WCDMA alliance (GaAs News)

RF Micro Devices has signed a memorandum of understanding to expand its alliance with Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT) to develop WCDMA power amplifier modules for inclusion in QCT s MSM5200 IC family. The two companies recently announced the first generation of PA5200 power amplifiers to the CDMA market following qualification and volume production shipments in October 2000. RFMD s GaAs PAs are used in conjunction with QCT s MSM5200 Mobile Station Modem (MSM) baseband, transmit processor, receiver processor and power management devices to form a complete, integrated WCDMA module. QCT says it has shipped more than 133 million MSM chips worldwide. "The joint development efforts between Qualcomm and RFMD continue to result in the most advanced and highly integrated wireless power amplifier products available," said Johan Lodenius, QCT s senior vice-president of marketing and product management. "The alliance allows Qualcomm to maintain its leadership in offering manufacturers worldwide the best performing and most cost-effective power amplifiers available in the CDMA marketplace."
