Suppliers work on pluggable transceivers (Fiber News)

A group of sixteen companies have announced a new initiative for next-generation 10 Gigabit pluggable (XGP) fiber-optic transceivers. Members of the XGP group will independently develop 10 Gigabit transceivers based on this multiple source agreement (MSA). The XGP group will leverage the work that was done by last year s small form factor pluggable MSA to ensure quick development of a market-ready design. This MSA is intended to establish a common design amongst several manufacturers, giving designers a choice of sources for 10 Gigabit transceivers. The XGP covers five 10 Gigabit transceiver types, including 850 nm serial, 850 nm CWDM, 1310 nm serial, 1310 nm CWDM and 1550 nm serial. The companies intend to work on a common design interface for multiple protocols in 10 Gigabit networking and storage applications.
