UEC Group reveals optoelectronic plans (Fiber News)

United Epitaxy Company (UEC) has undergone a reorganization with a view to increasing its optoelectronic product portfolio. UEC Group has set up a number of subsidiaries, concentrating on areas including epitaxy, device processing and device packaging. Using MOVPE as its core technology, UEC Group has to date focussed on LED and laser diode production since its founding in 1993. The UEC Group subsidiary Elite Advanced Laser will concentrate on chip packaging and has begun to provide lasers for CD-RW systems. Lasers for DVD systems are being assessed by customers, with volume production expected to start later this year. A further subsidiary, LinkComm Wireless, is still raising capital. UEC Group s plan is for LinkComm to focus on development and production of GaAs epitaxial products and will include a four and six inch InGaP/GaAs HBT process. UEC Group has begun to ship 850 nm VCSELs targeted at the Gigabit Ethernet market in sample quantities. Besides the VCSELs, UEC Group has also developed 1310 nm and 1550 nm laser products for the long distance communications market.
