Alpha buys Kopin's HBT epiwafers (GaAs News)
Kopin has signed a multi-year contract to provide InGaP HBT transistor wafers to Alpha Industries. Kopin s epiwafer products are used in the manufacture of PA circuits for digital cellular and PCS handsets, ICs for next generation 3G wireless devices, and 2.5 and 10 Gbit/s optical network ICs. In addition, Kopin recently announced a collaboration with Rockwell to develop InP HBTs to support next generation wireless and optical networking systems (see Compound Semiconductor April 2001, p15). "We are very excited to announce our supply partnership with Alpha Industries," said John Fan, Kopin s president and CEO. "We have worked closely with Alpha s technical and product teams and are looking forward to supporting their expansion of HBT programs. This validates our strategic plan to deliver precisely what communications circuit manufacturers are looking for - high-performance HBT wafer production that is reliable, consistent and highly scalable."
