Siemens orders HBT PAs from RFMD (GaAs News)
RF Micro Devices has received production orders for both GSM and DCS/ PCS power amplifiers from Siemens. Shipments are expected to begin in July and increase to the multi-million-dollar level during this calendar year, says the company. RFMD will supply Siemens with GaAs HBT-based PAs for its S40 and S42 wireless phones, both of which are recently introduced triple-band handsets (GSM 900/GSM 1800/GSM 1900) with WAP (wireless application protocol) functionality. Analysis by Gartner Dataquest places Siemens as the world s fourth largest manufacturer of handsets, with a 6.9% market share. "We anticipate additional orders for future platforms, which could quickly establish Siemens as one of our top-ten accounts," said president and CEO David Norbury.
