Taiwanese InGaN LED makers ramp up (LED News)
Several companies in Taiwan are expanding their capacity to produce InGaN-based blue and green LEDs. According to local sources, Epistar, a leading supplier of AlInGaP chips and epiwafers, initiated production of InGaN epiwafers last year. The company now has a capacity of 5 million chips per month, and its new factory will accommodate a monthly capacity of 15 million chips. Huga Optotech, a nitride LED specialist, achieved volume production of epiwafers in the fourth quarter of last year. Its current capacity is also 5 million chips per month, with plans to increase this to 10 million by the end of this year.
