Fixed wireless broadband market set to grow (Market News)

Reports from Strategis Group and Allied Business Intelligence (ABI) have both forecast significant growth for the fixed wireless broadband market. Services such as LMDS, MMDS and other broadband wireless access (BWA) services are emerging as strong alternatives to wired connections through cable modems and DSL. The ABI study predicts that global subscribers to MMDS, BWA and the unlicensed spectrum will grow from 0.4 million in 2001 to 13.6 million in 2006 (see ). This is significant for the GaAs MMIC manufacturers, as broadband wireless networks will become an increasingly important market for their devices. The Strategis Group report focuses on the US market and also forecasts subscriber growth. The figures show a growth from 0.4 million in 2001 to 5.4 million in 2005, despite some recent high profile bankruptcies amongst service providers.
