Coherent unveils 5 W diode laser (New Devices)
Santa Clara, CA. Coherent Inc Semiconductor Division (CSD) has introduced a broad-area 810 nm emitter that produces 5 W under CW operation. The new device is an addition to CSD s existing family of aluminum-free near-infrared (790813 nm) laser diodes and lends itself to integration into direct diodes for thermal, medical and industrial applications. The laser also serves as a pump source for Nd-based diode-pumped solid-state lasers. Featuring a 500 m single-stripe structure and mounted on an industry-standard (10.5 mm 25 mm) conduction-cooled package, the drive current and compliance voltage are less than 6 A and 2 V, respectively. The spectral line-width is typically less than 2.5 nm, and the beam divergence is 35 10 (both quoted FWHM)(see ). www.coherentinc.com
