RSoft pack simulates optical links (Product Showcase)

RSoft has upgraded its LinkSIM optical link modeling and simulation software package. LinkSIM aids in the design and analysis of optical telecommunication and broadband fiber-optic links for telecommunications, datacom, WDM and TDM systems, in addition to optical LANs, parallel optical and free space optical interconnects. The new version 3.0 calculates the effects of the latest laser sources, in addition to treating non-linear effects experienced in fiber during Raman amplification. The significantly expanded program now includes a single-mode, non-linear fiber model with intra-pulse Raman scattering, frequency-dependent loss, non-linearity and Raman gain profiles, and nonlinear interactions between noise and signal fields. A new bi-directional Raman amplifier model also handles Raleigh back-scattering and spontaneous emission. The addition of VCSELs to a datacom system can also be modeled, including such parameters as spatial hole burning, lateral carrier diffusion, thermally dependent gain and thermal carrier leakage. At the receiver end of the link, an enhanced treatment of signalspontaneous and spontaneousspontaneous ASE beat noise has been added, as has an improved treatment of polarization in CW signals.
