Vitronics' ovens meet soldering demands (Product Showcase)

The advent of lead-free solders has widened the soldering processing window reducing damage to the PCB and its components. Reflow soldering ovens from Vitronics Soltec are designed to complement lead-free soldering by incorporating relatively small heat zones and creating a flat heat concentration profile in the peak zone. This keeps the temperature below the damage threshold, while at the same time remaining above the liquidus temperature of the soldering alloy. In addition, lead-free solders require accurate control of the time spent above the liquidus temperature. Too short a time results in improper wetting, whereas too long will result in intermetallic layers and microstructure coarsening. Vitronics ovens offer controlled cooling as well as a special flux flow control management for collection of exhaust vapors.
