Atoga chooses Agility's widely tunable laser (Fiber News)

Atoga Systems (Fremont, CA) will employ Agility Communications high-power, widely tunable laser in its Optical Application Router (OAR) product family of highly scalable optical switching platforms for metro networks. Agility s 3040 device is a sample-grating DBR tunable source capable of 4 mW output power, with the facility to tune across the C-band wavelength range (15301565 nm) in less than 10 ms. The InP lasers are manufactured at Agility s wafer fab in Santa Barbara, CA, which can produce 1 million lasers per year. "Our integrated, intelligent OAR platform takes full advantage of Agility s tunable DWDM lasers to rapidly switch from one wavelength to another, offering carriers enormous benefits in networking efficiency through significant performance advantages, improved network flexibility, and seamless scalability," said Mark Lowry, director of photonics at Atoga. "The use of tunable lasers in the OAR product family provides faster provisioning times, more flexible networks and reduced operating costs."
