Motorola releases CATV amplifier (New Devices)

Phoenix, AZ. Motorola s new MHW9187 amplifier targets 870 MHz CATV applications and is based on the company s high output power doubler. This device is the first in a series based on the company GaAs HVPHEMT 2 process, which Motorola says leads to improved output and reduces the number of cascaded amplifiers required in a system. A complete series of preamplifiers are also in development based on the process. The MHW9187 operates in the 40870 MHz range and is specified for 79, 112 and 132 channel performance. The device is housed in a CATV package at a cost of $38 in quantities of 10 000. "The MHW9187 is designed to provide the highest output in order to lower system distortion and to drive longer lines than was previously possible," said Lynelle McKay of Motorola s Wireless Infrastructure Systems Division (see ). www.motorola.com
