Pilot production at Knowledge*on foundry (Asia News)

Pilot production at Knowledge*on foundry Knowledge*on has commenced pilot operation of its new 6 inch InGaP HBT and MMIC foundry in Iksan, Korea. The operation, which is aiming for a capacity of 3000 wafers per month, will produce ICs for CDMA, GSM, Bluetooth and 3G applications, and 40 Gbit/s optical communications. In July, Knowledge*on announced a strategic partnership with Agilent Technologies to develop a design kit based on Agilent s Advanced Design System (ADS). This will provide MMIC and RFIC designers with easy access to Knowledge*on s InGaP/GaAs HBT foundry process. The two companies believe that this partnership will bring about an acceleration in growth of the GaAs pure play foundry business. "We have made dedicated efforts to provide our customers with the best design- flow and design-support infrastructure to allow them to do their time-consuming design work with maximum efficiency," said Jae-Woo Park, Knowledge*on s CTO. "By supplying our foundry libraries embedded in the ADS design kit, RF engineers save time and money over the old method of working with raw foundry model libraries." With a pre-established design flow, designers are able to tackle the hardest circuit and system designs without worrying about the integrity of the design database.
