NEL moves to 6 inch GaAs production (Headline News)
NTT Electronics (NEL) is in the process of shifting its fabrication to a 6 inch wafer facility to boost production, according to FiberSystems International magazine, a sister publication of Compound Semiconductor. NEL fabricates a range of GaAs ICs operating in the 2.520 Gbit/s range, and ships approximately 20 000 10 Gbit/s products each month. "Our IC sales have been doubling each year for the past few years," said Hiroyuki Kikiuchi, sales director of NEL s electronics business group. Around 60% of NEL s ICs, and 80% of its lasers, are sold to the domestic market (see FiberSystems International July 2001, p36).
