Nichia licenses LED color-change method (LED News)

Nichia has licensed technology from researchers at Kyoto and Osaka universities in Japan that can be used to adjust the color of light emitted by LEDs. Kansai Technology Licensing Organization, which transfers technology from academia to industry, has applied for a patent in this area and will grant a non-exclusive license to Nichia. The technique combines the light from the LED and emission from rare earth complex ions embedded in a transparent plastic covering (see Compound Semiconductor July 2001, p15).
